The Lover Crowned - Jean-Honoré Fragonard // Promiscuous - Nelly Furtado & Timbaland
Solitary people. – Some people are so used to being alone with themselves that they do not compare themselves at all with other people, but spin out their monologic lives in a peaceful and cheerful mood, conversing quite well with themselves, and even laughing. But if we do bring them to compare themselves with others, they tend toward a brooding underestimation of themselves: so that they must be forced to learn a good and just opinion of themselves from others first: and they will always be wanting to deduct and to bargain away something from this acquired opinion as well. – We must therefore grant certain people their solitude and not be so foolish, as frequently happened, as to pity them on account of it.
